A new twist in the Apple vs. Samsung legal proceedings spanning more than two dozen lawsuits across continents as the Federal Court in Australia lifted sales ban on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablet today. The court unanimously overturned a ruling last month from Justice Annabelle Bennett which required that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 be banned from sale in Australia. Sydney Morning Hearld quoted the ruling: Samsung’s Australian subsidiary says it is “pleased with today’s unanimous decision”....

Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant has joined the cast of Fargo season 4 in a key role. Released in 1996, the Coen Brothers’ movie Fargo, about various small town Minnesota characters getting caught up in a hapless murder-and-kidnap scheme, became one of the filmmaking duo’s most beloved and iconic movies, nabbing 7 Oscar nominations and winning for Best Actress (Frances McDormand) and Best Original Screenplay (Joel and Ethan Coen). With its unique combination of quirky characters, bleak Minnesota setting and typically dry, ironic Coen Brothers humor, Fargo proved a huge influence on writer-director-producer Noah Hawley, who in 2014 debuted the first season of Fargo the TV series on FX....

Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is planning to tell MJ (Zendaya) how he really feels about her in a new Spider-Man: Far From Home TV spot. Marvel Studios will follow up Avengers: Endgame with the friendly neighborhood hero’s second standalone adventure. In collaboration with Sony Pictures, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts returns to helm the sequel that will deal with the aftermath of Thanos’ initial triumph and then ultimate defeat. Far From Home will be the final film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3, and will see Peter on a trip across the pond with his schoolmates....

It’s looking more and more likely the blockbuster Fast and Furious series may be soon spinning off one of its most popular heroes. Fitting of a franchise defined by the word “family”, the car stunt showcase isn’t short on memorable characters. Unsurprisingly, most of the famous ones tend to be those from the original street race actioner – especially Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Connor played by real-life bros Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker – although the perhaps current fan favorite didn’t turn up until ten years and five movies later: Luke Hobbs....

As a paperless kind of guy, I’m a huge fan of the Wallet app. I especially like the way it integrates all my cards, etickets and boarding passes into one place, rather than having to go hunting for them in a dozen different apps. Ubisoft just officially unveiled Far Cry: New Dawn this evening at The Game Awards, the newest standalone installment of the award-winning Far Cry franchise and a direct sequel of sorts to Far Cry 5. New Dawn is set 17 years after the events of Far Cry 5 where the prophesied global nuclear catastrophe came to fruition. Now, the world has been reborn into a vibrant and stylish makeshift reality. Far Cry: New Dawn is not DLC to Far Cry 5 but instead is a full standalone game in the vein of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal, scheduled with a February 15, 2019 release date for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $39....

Internet speed-test company HighSpeedInternet just hit three million tests across the US, and have reported back on the ten fastest Internet speeds – and the ten slowest – across both states and cities. It also revealed the average speeds across the whole of the US by different providers … The company split the 3M tests by state and city, and calculated an average for each. HomePod, Apple’s smart speaker, has some great features when it comes to pairing multiple speakers together. Thanks to AirPlay 2, users can play the same audio on different HomePods around the house or even use a stereo pair as standard Apple TV speakers. However, there’s one thing that I still miss about the HomePod, and that’s a true surround mode. Actor Eddie Redmayne has revealed that JK Rowling is still working on the Fantastic Beasts 3 script. The Wizarding World franchise has been struggling of late; popular and critical reception to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald wasn’t particularly positive. It received a paltry 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and audience polling gave it a B+ CinemaScore. Warner Bros. seems to be conducting something of a course-correction, and production has been continually pushed back....

Fast & Furious 9 hasn’t even hit theaters, yet the 10th film is already said to be in development. And Vin Diesel even hinted that Universal Studios might borrow the Avengers template and split the 10th movie into two parts. This is a franchise that looks like it neither intends to stop nor take a lengthy break. But should it? While the franchise has millions (possibly billions) of fans, there are those who feel that it’s time for it to end....

A number of hotel chains have been using smart home technology in their rooms for some time now, with Hilton yesterday announcing its own plans to take the idea one step further, with the ability to remember your connected room preferences and automatically apply them when you check into a new hotel. I love this idea, and I’d like to see Apple work with hotel chains to take the logical next step …...

With the majority of this week’s social media buzz being focused on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, there can be little surprise over the news that it is expected to top the box office this weekend… and then some. The return to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World has been highly anticipated by Harry Potter fans; but while it might be an exciting prospect to re-enter the magical realm, Fantastic Beasts is also a completely new branch of Rowling’s work, and nobody could have been quite sure of just how well the film would do....
