For the first time in a federal case, a suspect has been ordered to use her fingerprint to unlock her iPhone using Touch ID. The LA Times reports that a federal judge signed a warrant allowing the FBI to compel a suspect in an identity theft case to to unlock the phone just 45 minutes after her arrest. The warrant is consistent with a 2014 case where a Virginia District Court ruled that while passcodes are protected by the 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination, fingerprints are not....

Fear the Walking Dead is the spinoff of AMC’s The Walking Dead, which also happens to be the most successful show on cable. The spinoff hasn’t found the same success as the original Walking Dead TV series - but with its unique setting and cast of characters, it has found a dedicated fanbase that have driven the series into a third season. AMC has been keeping any and all details about the newest season of Fear the Walking Dead close to the vest, as the show has been shooting in Baja Mexico....

When Apple released iOS 10 last September, they pushed in a small change when connecting to wireless networks. Tucked away under the Wi-Fi settings, iOS now warns users when connecting to insecure networks that it exposes a user’s network traffic. The easy answer to this is to simply not connect to public wireless networks, but that’s something that most people will just ignore. If users won’t stop connecting to insecure public networks, they could at least start using VPNs and Apple could make it easy to do that....

Some sources suggest that distracted driving is as dangerous as drunk driving. The National Highway & Transportation Administration (NHTSA) reported that in 2015, the most recent year for which full data is available, distracted driving killed 3,477 people and injured 391,000. Using smartphones while driving is the most obvious example of distracted driving, and the NHTSA says that reading or sending a text is the most dangerous form. That’s partly because of the length of time a driver’s eyes are off the road, but also partly because many people find a text hard to ignore....

With the introduction of iPad Pro, now is the time for Apple to finally bring Logic Pro to its tablet. Apple has long had Garageband available for iOS devices, offering what is essentially a feature for feature companion for the desktop Mac app, albeit with a user interface tweaked for the smaller touch display. But it’s not much help to pros that have their workflow in Apple’s professional audio editing suite for Mac, Logic Pro....

Although a small flood of awards season hopeful films are going to be pouring into theaters over the final month of 2016, most of them won’t be going into a wide theatrical release in the U.S. until 2017. Fast 8/Fast & Furious 8 is the next installment in the highly-lucrative Fast and the Furious movie franchise and will serve as the followup to last year’s Furious 7: the highest-grossing addition to the street car racing-turned globe-trotting action series yet, as well as the film that provided a sendoff to the late Paul Walker and his character, Brian O’Connor. The original characters in William Golding’s book were all young boys, but this time around, they’ll be girls. The book, published in 1954, has become a cornerstone of high school lit classes. It’s set in the midst of a wartime evacuation, and follows a group of young, elementary-aged students stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash....

Tim Cook is set to speak ahead of President Obama today at the White House Summit on Cybersecurity at Stanford University, and the White House has already shared some unexpected news regarding government support for Apple Pay. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald revealed that Albus Dumbledore apparently had another sibling that even he did not know about: Aurelius Dumbledore. Aurelius appears to be the youngest member of the Dumbledore family, being around 15 years younger than Albus’s late younger sister, Ariana. Aurelius had previously been one of the highlights of 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, where he was known as Credence Barebone, the Obscurial wizard who lived in an abusive foster home in New York City....
