A new international TV spot for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald reveals Queenie (Alison Sudol) trapped in a spell by Johnny Depp’s villainous character. A week before the Harry Potter prequel saga continues with its second installment, Warner Bros. is hard at work promoting the film not just in North America, but all over the globe fully knowing how popular the franchise is worldwide.
Fans will reunite with Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander as he hunts down Grindelwald after he escapes from prison and threatens to disrupt the peace between the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. Aside from familiar characters, the cast from 2016’s Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them has grown tremendously in the new film with the additions of Jude Law as Young Dumbledore, Claudia Kim as Nagini, Callum Turner as Thesus Scamander (Newt’s brother) and Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange - Newt’s former schoolmate and love interest. But while it will be interesting to see how these new key players will factor in the sequel’s narrative, audiences are also very excited to see what the original characters in the prequel saga are up to. Sadly, one of them, Queenie, seems like she can be in a better situation.
Warner Bros. (via Comic Book) has released an international promo spot for Crimes of Grindelwald revealing a brand new look at the villain’s confrontation with Newt and his team. This one features Queenie seemingly trapped in the sea of a blue wave from a spell that Grindelwald cast. It’s unknown why the villain went for her, nevertheless, the visual is causing fans to worry about the popular character. Watch the clip below:
Fans have seen the arena confrontation many times in both trailers and spots for Crimes of Grindelwald. An earlier part of the sequence showed Grindelwald appealing to a packed house - possibly about his plans to take over the Muggle world, which appears to be his main motivation in the film. However, other looks at the sequence has revealed that by the time the confrontation between him and Newt’s team broke out, his audience is no longer there. It’s difficult to say if this whole action set piece is the final battle in the film, but it’s going to be pivotal moment seeing that it is possibly where Newt’s hunt for Grindelwald (as per Dumbledore’s request) leads him to.
Knowing J.K. Rowling’s ability for lore building, there’s a good chance that the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will be revealing more connections to the established Harry Potter franchise, especially since the prequel series is inching its way closer to it timeline-wise. So far, the long-existing theory with regard to Nagini has already been proven and it shouldn’t come as a surprise if this is only the first of many references to mythos’ primary film series. Newt has already established connections with Leta Estrange and Dumbledore and he’s about to have a strong link in the upcoming film with Grindelwald (who will return in Fantastic Beasts 3). Assuming that Queenie, Tina (Katherine Waterston), and Jacob (Dan Fogler) will all have roles to play with what becomes of the Wizarding World and its relationship with the Muggles long after they’re gone doesn’t seem to be that farfetched.
