The new trailer for the second half of season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead is packed with clues about the upcoming episodes, and gives fans an idea of who and what the characters will have to contend with next. The trailer, which was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, provides a preview of two characters reuniting the group, rising tensions, and a fear of war with other survivors.

The trailer gives us a look at some of the interactions between the characters following the death of Jeremiah Otto (Dayton Callie.) There appears to be unrest within the group as they struggle to get by due to a lack of supplies, while also worrying about a coming war with Walker (Michael Greyeyes) and his tribe of Indians. The concern of the people appears to be escalating, as Troy (Daniel Sharman) encourages preemptive action against Walker and seems to be at odds with Madison (Kim Dickens.)

We also see the return of Salazar (Ruben Blades) and Strand (Colman Domingo), as both are shown interacting with Madison.

One of the biggest takeaways of this trailer is that Troy (Daniel Sharman) is shaping up to be the new antagonist of the show. Fans knew that when Nick (Frank Dillane) killed Jeremiah, there would be consequences. Though Troy did have a strained relationship with his father, it’s clear that Troy remained loyal to him and the ranch. Since the character already has a reputation for being unhinged, reckless, and violent, it’s not difficult to imagine that he will be the one affected most by Jeremiah’s death.

It’s also possible that Troy could lead some of his men into action not only against Walker, but also against Madison and her family.

Though the trailer suggests that Troy will be the main antagonist in the second half of Fear the Waking Dead season 3, this doesn’t mean that the conflict with Walker is resolved by any means. Walker seemed to be appeased by Jeremiah’s death, but the character could still become a formidable enemy for them in the future, especially if Troy succeeds in starting a war with him.

Since most of the trailer seemed to focus on the core group, not much can be learned about the nature of the reunion with Salazar and Strand here. What will be particularly interesting is how Salazar will respond to Ofelia’s decision to side with Walker’s group.

Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on September 10.
